The 1x60 debate will broadcast live on Channel 4 on Tuesday 15th March at 8pm. It will be hosted by Matt Frei and consist of a panel made up of politicians and experts and include a broad selection of members of the public, who will hold varying views. With the backdrop of the catastrophic war, panellists will be answering some of the most complex and challenging questions of this century.
Matt Frei said; “After two years of Covid, Ukraine has now given the world a new and more perilous challenge: put brutally, how to contain the aggression of a super power without threatening a war of extinction for mankind. Ukraine has become the battleground of modern humanity but the fighting is left to the Ukrainians. We have sent weapons. We closed economic ranks. We have stood firm on our principles and we have opened our doors and hearts to refugees. But given the stakes is that enough?”
Louisa Compton, Head of News and Current Affairs and Specialist Factual and Sport added; “Channel 4 have ripped up their schedule to get this debate on air – a clear sign of our continuing commitment to public service audience focussed journalism. As the situation worsens in Ukraine, this programme will aim to capture the polarised views of the audience on topics such as military intervention, no fly zones and more stringent sanctions. It will also ask, during these unprecedented times, should the UK being doing more to support the people of Ukraine?
